It started shortly after my divorce. I wasn’t working and was suddenly thrust into a new world where I had to hold myself up by myself. I was disoriented and lost, jolted by a reality I wasn’t ready for. I wasn’t sure where to go or how to proceed. There seemed to be so many options, and for once, I truly started contemplating the start of a career. Not just any, but one that represented me and that I could be proud of. One that I felt honored my life path and what I thought my purpose in life was. I truly tried everything I thought of. I asked everyone I knew and consulted every resource I’ve heard of, took career acuity tests, and researched to death so many potential areas I could go into. I was exhausted, but I refused to stop looking. I knew I had to find something. Ironically, it wasn’t any of these things that led me into hypnotherapy.

This started when I was living with a friend on a farm of all places, having no place to go, and deeply grateful for her support. I’ve always been fascinated with psychology up to this point; it’s the one topic I’d always study and simply never get tired of, but even then, I didn’t feel a field in psychology was accessible or realistic for me. It was only around the time when it was close to the end of my stay that I was resting on the couch after a long day of activity. I was fervently clung to this book that detailed cases of past life regression, and each day at night, it’s what I’d anxiously read before bed. I was fascinated, truly. And then, a thought occurred to me while I was reading on this particular night: “That would be incredible to do.” And I’m sure I’d read around a page more before freezing up and having the thought click. I imagined myself as a hypnotherapist for the first time since reading this book, already more than halfway through. I sprung up and immediately began researching, only to find that there were schools I did consider accessible for my situation, or rather, specifically a school, HMI.

There wasn’t a soul I didn’t tell. “I found it, I found it!” Family, friends, acquaintances, and even some strangers. I was met with so much resistance too, from people who believed it to be unscientific to even people who thought it was a thing from the devil! And when I researched further, I found this couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve always had an analytical mind, and nothing convinced me more than when I found all the research detailing just how powerful hypnotherapy was. I was more sure. I had to enroll as soon as possible. It only took a month, and I’ve never stopped fervently learning since. At the time, I was still disoriented from my personal strife, my motivation was shaky, and my emotions were a whirlwind. It wasn’t long into the program that I was taught self-hypnosis, and it’s awespiring. When I tell you that nothing has ever impacted me so strongly and so effectively in my life, it truly was wonderful. My motivation levels and focus were always a problem in my life, and no therapy, lifestyle, or medication soothed this problem in my life. Somehow, this was almost immediately improved with self-hypnosis, and when I did this consistently, my motivation remained strong and resolute.

The transformative experience hypnotherapy gave me, along with all of the supporting research on it, gives me confidence that this is one of the most powerful therapies anybody could possibly choose for their own blockages and issues. And now that I’m a practicing hypnotherapist, nothing would give me greater joy than hearing that you’d like to give this modality a try. Name the problem, and I almost guarantee that hypnotherapy has proven to be a great tool to help with it.
